OCO: Level Design

OVERVIEW

OCO is a die & retry game made by the studio Spectrum48 where the player must try hard to complete the level by collecting all the yellow collectibles, with the bonus of a perfect time and a perfect number of moves.
Most of the time, to pass a level perfectly, the player has to
take some time to think about how to do it. Then it's all about having the right timing to jump at the right moment. This requires a lot of skill.

I have noticed that some OCO
players love this kind of challenge, but others also like something more calm and pleasant to watch. So I tried to create different levels with different objectives, and here are the 3 most appreciated by the players.

You can also try them on the app by downloading it and adding my creator's name which you will find at the bottom of this page.

Spinin'

This level has a medium difficulty, where the player doesn't have to jump many times, but he has to jump at the right time. The player must think before playing if he wants to make the perfect timing and the perfect number of moves.

The shape of the level can make the player think of a Hand Spinner or a propeller, which is a familiar shape and can be remembered easily.

Zarbi

This level has a medium difficulty, where the player cannot die since there is no hole in the shape. Just like the previous one, the player must think before playing if he wants to make the perfect timing and the perfect number of moves. However, if he doesn't want to think, he will be able to finish the level, but without the perfect timing and number of moves.

The shape of the level is inspired by the Pokemon Unown (Zarbi in french), which is a nod to the game Pokemon and it can be familiar to some players.

Flower Power

This level is an easy one, so easy that the player only has to watch to win. I noticed some OCO players liked to only watch a level doing a cute shape or just an unexpected shape by itself. That's why I made this level looking like a flower. There is no challenge, just pleasant to watch.

During the process of drawing the flower, it can remind us of mandalas made with compasses when we were younger.
